Drew's studio news - August 2023

AUGUST 2023

Hello from Ohio (aka, not the mountains.) I've been home from Colorado for just over two weeks and while I am content to be home I would run back to the mountains if given the chance.

I'm missing the cool and dry mountain air as it's been hot and humid where I live. UGH! Oh well, not much I can do about that.

Now on to studio news...

STUDIO NEWS

Recent studio work

While I was in Colorado, I worked on thumbnail/grid collages in my sketchbook, mostly while watching TV. I've been slowly incorporating collage papers that are NOT gel printed... gasp! I know. But, it has changed my work a bit which I am enjoying.

I'm 2/3 through my current sketchbook which is giving me the motivation to complete it. I promise to make a flip-through video when I'm finished.

Current studio soundtrack

Right now I'm listening to Switched on Ben by Sunshine Recorder. I'm a closet Hooked on Classics fan so this short playlist has been on repeat for the past few weeks.

LIFE UPDATES

As I mentioned above, I've been home from Colorado for just over two weeks. We spent our days hiking, exploring, and "working remotely."

We were there for almost 4.5 weeks. It's a luxury to spend a month in one location... you can take your time and not feel as if you need to rush to fit everything in to a one week holiday.

We also drove (one way took two days, 1200miles/1900km, six states, three different times zones) as we wanted to take Fred and have a car while we were there.

I love being in the mountains... it's probably the only place that makes me overly emotional... I feel it in my body, almost like I'm from there or belong there. I miss being there terribly, but I know I will be back soon. 🥰🏔

IG INSPIRATION

Jen P. Harris

My current Instagram crush is Jen P. Harris.

Harris is an artist working with painting, drawing, textiles, and installation based in Ohio. Their graphic and bold quilt inspired collage work makes my heart flutter.

Check out Harris's work!

COMING SOON

Gel plate summit

I mentioned in my last studio news that the Gel Printers Summit '23 is officially happening. I received so many messages saying you were all so excited to hear the news.

The summit will open for early bird pricing mid-September and the lineup of instructors will be announced in late-August. Keep an eye on my social media for all the info.
