Tutorial: mark making on a gel plate

TUTORIAL

One great way to make a mark on a gel plate is by removing paint from the plate. There’s many ways you can do this. Here’s two options…

COTTON SWABS

I love using cotton swabs. Just run to your bathroom and grab some Qtips and you’re ready to go.

Add some paint to the gel plate and start making some marks. You might need to use more than one cotton swab once it’s saturated with paint.

COLOR SHAPERS

Another option I like are color shapers. These are squeegee-like “brushes” used by mixed media artists.

Add some paint to the gel plate and start removing the paint. Since the color shaper doesn’t absorb the paint like the cotton swab, you’ll need to remove the paint from the “brush” as you go.

PULL THE PRINT

When I make marks on the plate by removing paint, I like to use darker paint. Then you can use pages you’ve already printed to print on top of.

It creates a really nice mask effect.

Have fun!💥🎉🎨
