Tutorial: magazine transfers on a gel plate

TUTORIAL

There’s nothing more magical than magazine transfers on a gel plate... How do you get consistent results? A few tips...

MAGAZINE TYPES

Magazines are different and give different results for many reasons... fashion and decor magazines with glossy pages have the most consistent results for me.

Interior Design, Architectural Digest, National Geographic, and most fashion magazines like Elle, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, etc., work well for me. You’ll need to test to see what works best for you.

Images with high contrast work the best.

PAINT AMOUNT

A thinner coat of paint works best for me. Liquitex BASICS gives me the best results.

Again, experiment with paint brands and paint amount.

LAYING MAGAZINE PAGE ON PLATE & PULLING PRINT

Lay the magazine page on the plate and rub gently. Leave on the plate for 15-30 seconds. If it’s humid, then less time is better.

I let the transfer paint dry, then add more paint, add the paper and let it sit on the plate for a minute or two, then pull the print.

Have fun!πŸ’₯πŸŽ‰πŸŽ¨
