Drew's studio news - September 2023

SEPTEMBER 2023

The weather here in Ohio has been up and down... today is a beautiful, slightly cool, autumn-like day... and next week it's forecasted to be 95F/35C... ALL WEEK! UGH!

Anyway, I really haven't been able to enjoy this week's amazing reprieve from the summer heat because I've been working feverishly on the Gel Printers Summit! (more info below)

Now on to studio news...

STUDIO NEWS

Recent studio work

I've always been fidgety (it used to drive my dad nuts.) Combine that with an impulse to be productive and I always need to keep my hands busy. I'm usually on my iPad when sitting on the couch watching TV. Lately, I've been making these photo collages using an app call Adobe Fresco. It's similar to Procreate. Since I already have Adobe Creative Cloud, it made sense to use Fresco.

Anyway, I love creating these quick collages using photos that I take of my neighborhood during my afternoon walks/coffee breaks. I've always loved urban iconography and my neighborhood is crammed full of typical urban scenes and elements. I sometimes take the collages too far, but that's the benefit of working digitally... I can just go back/delete.

Current studio soundtrack

Right now I'm listening to You Are My Sunshine by Cryus Chestnut. I think because of the It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown soundtrack I associate jazz piano with autumn. So, this Chestnut album has been on repeat as I wish autumn weather in to existence during all the recent heat.

IG INSPIRATION

Sarah Bagshaw

My current Instagram crush is Sarah Bagshaw.

Her current body of work uses recycled cardboard boxes both to print on and as print templates. These are then assembled into final collaged pieces. Check out Bagshaw's work!
