Tutorial: collages on a Gelli plate

TUTORIAL

Almost all my collages use papers I made on a Gelli plate. It’s a great way to use up all those gel printed papers you have laying round.

But did you know you can use a gel plate WHILE you are creating the collage?

While you might already have a treasure trove of gel-printed papers stashed away, using the Gelli plate as a dynamic tool during the very act of collage creation is another captivating dimension to explore.

Merge the spontaneity of the Gelli plate with the intricacy of collage. A few tips…

GATHER YOUR COLLAGE PAPER

Gather your collage paper. You can use anything you like… just be sure it’s uncoated/not shiny.

Trim your collage paper to smaller sizes and glue on to your paper. I use heavier paper, like card or watercolor paper.

Any kind of glue works. I like glue sticks.

PRINT YOUR PAPERS

Use your favorite gel printing techniques to print over top of the papers you’ve created. Remember to check if the paint is transparent or opaque before you print or you run the risk of covering up the collage papers underneath.

TRIM OUT YOUR COLLAGES

Add more collage on top of the papers if you wish.

Once you are finished, trim the papers down to quarters by cutting down the middle of the paper, then cutting each piece in half.

Have fun!💥🎉🎨
