Tutorial: gel plate printing on tissue paper

TUTORIAL

Let's dive into the world of gel plate printing on tissue paper. 💫

Whether you choose art tissue, tracing paper, or deli paper, let your creativity soar with vibrant prints. Use your favorite gel plate techniques and watch as they come to life with amazing transparency. ✨

Perfect for collage projects, gel plate printed tissue adds a touch of beauty to every creation. 🎨

Let me show you how…

WHAT KIND OF TISSUE?

When it comes to gel plate printing on tissue paper, the choice of paper is paramount. Opt for art tissue or wet strength tissue for optimal results.

In the US and Canada, you can find Spectra Bleeding Art Tissue made by Pacon.

However, don't shy away from exploring alternatives such as tracing paper or deli paper, each lending its unique charm to the artistic process.

PRINTING ON TISSUE PAPER

Adjust your paint to be slightly more generous than usual.

When selecting paint keep in mind the transparency; some paints are more opaque than others. Consider how you are going to use your gel plate printed tissue and if you want more opacity or less.

To control bleed-through place a piece of paper over the tissue as you work.

GO FOR IT!

Now comes the fun part – unleashing your creativity! Let your favorite gel plate printing techniques shine.

I like techniques that remove paint from the plate or block paint from being pulled off on the paper. In other words, leaving areas of the tissue clear of paint which allows the areas of the tissue with no paint to “disappear” when I glue it down in my collages, creating depth/layers.

Experiment with layering, blending, and texture creation. Try stencils and masks which work amazingly well with tissue.

Gel plate printed tissue is great for collages. Its inherent transparency adds depth and dimension to compositions.

Whether you're crafting mixed-media masterpieces or adding a touch of whimsy to your journal pages, gel plate printed tissue is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Have fun!💥🎉🎨
