Tutorial: spray paint on a gel plate?! YUP!

TUTORIAL

I'm always on the lookout for new techniques and materials to incorporate into my creative projects. Recently, I stumbled upon a fascinating idea that I just had to try: using water based spray paint on a gel plate.

Yes, you read that rightβ€”spray paint on a gel plate!

Intrigued? Let me walk you through this exciting process and share my experience.

Let’s get started…

SPRAY THE PLATE!

Montana Cans makes water based spray paint. Be sure you are using water based paint on your gel plate.

Spray the paint on to the gel plate like you would any other kind of spray paint. Hold the can about 5-6”/12-15cm away from the paint.

The paint adheres beautifully to the gel plate's surface, creating graffiti like marks. Keep your hand moving so the paint doesn’t pool.

Let this layer dry completely… patience is key.

PULL YOUR PRINT

Once the initial layer is dry, add more paint to the plate. Then, place a sheet of paper onto the plate and rub the surface.

I let the paper sit for a few minutes until the back of the paper feels dry to the touch.

Then pull your print.

Have fun!πŸ’₯πŸŽ‰πŸŽ¨
