Drew's studio news - July 2024

JULY 2024

I've been in Colorado for four weeks with two weeks left. It's a mix of happy and sad... I'm trying not to focus on leaving, but now I'm motivated to do all the hikes, take all the scenic routes, breathe in the cool mountain air, and take in all the inspiration before I head back to hot and humid Ohio.

On to studio news...

STUDIO NEWS

Recent studio work

In Colorado I’ve been on vacation/holiday mode more than I expected. Which translates to: I haven’t made as much art as I expected.

That’s ok, because time out of the “studio” is just as valuable as time in the “studio.”

It's hasn't been a total wash... I HAVE been making art here and there. One thing I've been doing consistently In the late evenings has been creating these sketchbook pages and coloring them in with Tombow markers. It’s kind of like I’m creating my own coloring books... fun and relaxing while watching TV.

IG INSPIRATION

Brice McCasland

My current Instagram art crush is Brice McCasland.

McCasland is an artist based in the US state of Texas. He combines collage with oil painting to create work that's narrative and detailed which reminds me of my childhood.

Check out Brice's work.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Printing in vintage books

Got a pile of gel printed papers stacking up?

Here's an idea: print into an old book! It satisfies your love for gel plate printing and keeps your paper pile from growing.

Old books work perfectly. The paper absorbs the paint nicely. Plus, it's a great way to reuse and give new life to old books.
