Drew's studio news - July 2023
JULY 2023
Hello from the mountains! I'm just over halfway through my month in Colorado. I've spent my days hiking, exploring, and "working remotely." It's a luxury to spend a month in one location... you can take your time and not feel as if you need to rush to fit everything in to a one week holiday.
Now on to studio news...
STUDIO NEWS
Recent studio work
Before I left Ohio I was working on a LARGE quilt (78"x79", 195x198cm). I'm a procrastinator, so I was pleasantly surprised I easily made the deadline to submit the quilt without rushing around like I usually do in those situations.
While in Colorado, I've been working on thumbnail/grid collages in my sketchbooks, mostly while watching TV. It's a perfect way to experiment with collage papers I've made in different ways other than using a gel plate... gasp! I know. I know. But, it has changed my work a bit which I am enjoying.
Current studio soundtrack
Right now I'm listening to BBC Proms 2017 - Prom 53: Beneath the Underdog: Charles Mingus Revisited. I'm a big Mingus fan and I love a good Leo P. bari sax moment so it's been on repeat for the past few weeks.
IG INSPIRATION
Christina Sauer
My current Instagram crush is Christina Sauer.
Sauer is an artist and designer based in Germany. In her bold and minimal mono- prints, "experimentation, artistic thinking and conception come together in the finished [piece]." Check out Sauer's work!
