Drew's studio news - June 2023
JUNE 2023
The days are getting longer and the temps are rising. And just like that, summer is here. 🌞 Well, not actually summer, but you know what I mean. I've been busy since my last newsletter, so...
...on to studio news...
STUDIO NEWS
Recent studio work
I've been busy in the studio working on a LARGE quilt (77"x79", 195.5x198cm)... eek! It was a beast to wrangle, guiding through the sewing machine and moving around the studio. I can't show you photos yet as it's possibly going in to a museum show next winter.
Other than that, I'm still working a lot on my iPad. It just makes sense for its ease and portability.
I'm going to take my analog art supplies with me to Colorado (see below), so there'll be plenty of non-digital art to share in my next newsletter.
A month in the mountains... again.
In just over a week I will be headed back to Colorado for 4.5 weeks! I'm looking forward to cool mountain air, hiking through pine forests, and traveling great bike paths. 🌲🚴🏻♂️
When I spent a month in Colorado two years ago, most days I would wake up early and go on a hike or bike ride for 2-3 hours. Then return to my AirBnB and do my freelance design work, collage in my sketchbook, and do other misc. work stuff. Then take an evening walk/hike after dinner.
I love being in the mountains... it's probably the only place that makes me overly emotional... I feel it in my body, almost like I'm from there or belong there. 🥰
I will be updating my Instagram stories daily so you can follow along!

Making your own stencils/masks
You all know I love making my own handmade stencils (and masks) to use on a gel plate. I almost exclusively use my own stencils and masks, cutting them out of clear film which gives me a super crisp edge which I love.
Check out this short YouTube video where I show you how to make an easy mask using a Tyvek envelope, markers, and a craft knife. Enjoy!
