Tutorial: water on a gel plate

TUTORIAL

Water on a gel plate? Yup!

Using water on a gelli plate to craft visual textures offers a captivating artistic experience. As the water interacts with the water-based acrylic paint, it produces a unique visual texture. It introduces an element of unpredictability and spontaneity, resulting in a myriad of intriguing textures that can elevate any artwork.

Let me show you how…

ADD PAINT AND WATER TO THE PLATE

Roll acrylic paint on to the gel plate. I like using Liquitex BASICS and Golden fluid acrylic for this technique.

Use a paintbrush to flick water at the plate. The water and paint will start to puddle. Continue until you’re satisfied with the amount of visual texture on the plate.

Let the plate sit for a few minutes. Some of the water will evaporate. You can use a paper towel to sop up the remaining water from the plate.

Let the paint dry completely.

PULLING THE PRINT

Once the paint is fully dry, add more paint to the plate, and roll an even layer.

Add your paper and press, letting it sit for a minute or two. Then, pull the print.

Experiment with different viscosities and different translucencies of acrylic paint to get different results.

Have fun!💥🎉🎨
